Not bad, but I'm not crazy about losing all the old threads or registration info.

Not bad, but I'm not crazy about losing all the old threads or registration info.I hear you there.. and gave that full consideration before the update. But we didn't lose the old threads... you can find them here (http://www.100milesnowsafari.org/old_reports/). And I've thought about at least trying to update the registration date with the date from last year. And then again... the year before... we had NO THREADS to begin with. This commercial software will provide us with better functionality and more options.

Brain,

I'm glad you got the Avatar upload to work. At least we know that it's working now! I stuck with the default size of 80x80, but I did increase the file size to 40K. I was thinking about increasing the avatar size to 100x100. Any thoughts? It's nice to have a spell check for sure... anybody get that darn thing to work??? I just tried again and again to get that thing to download without any success. Wait a minute... I think I just got it to download. The spell check is a plug-in for the IE browser only. I've got it installed... and now I'm going to test it.

Wowsers... works good... I think I'll upload the install file to the server for other users that may want to download it.

I got the IE Spell Check plug-in to work and have uploaded it to the 100 Mile server to simplify the download process. Please click the IE Spell Check (http://www.100milesnowsafari.org/reports/showthread.php?p=35#post35) thread for more details.

About the 100 x 100 avatar size. As long as it doesn't slow down the response time I like it. The Bigger the pictures the better.

I guess it would be the file size that would control the download time, and not the picture size, but I think I'll leave the picture size at the default setting for now. I'd already increased the file size the other day.

Hey... Thanks for testing that. I just made a change on that last night and was hoping that it would put the attachments in-line.

Hello All....

As some of you may of noticed....the 100 Mile Snow Safari message board was down for a period of time while I upgraded the message board software. It also required that we upgrade our SQL database and PHP scripting language. We had a couple of problems with the latter, but all seems to be fixed now and working properly.

Good thing it's back up. I almost had a little withdrawal going on there.

No kidding. That took a lot longer than I thought it was going to take. But everything appears to be back to normal now.

Jim, why the new site being the old one was only one year old? Don't get me wrong I like the new one better just for the browse function for our posts. It is so easy now to post pictures. I am sure there are more additions which I haven't found yet. As usually keep up the good work!! :thinksnow:

Last Fall of 2005 was when I first started as webmaster for the 100 Mile Snow Safari. It was at that time I implemented the first message board using the phpBB message board software. :D

Before that, there was no message board. It was just a simplified message system, used only by the trail groomers. There was no public access. :(

The message board from last year, was nice and the price was right. The phpBB software was free. However, we soon learned it had some limitations, like the ability to allow our members to upload pictures. This was something a lot of people asked about.

During the off-season, I started researching other software solutions, like the vBulletin software. There are some other message boards that I visit, which use the same software, and it seemed to be the industry leader. So I decided we'd give it a try!

Last year's message board became the old one when we switched the software from phpBB to vBulletin.
